Homes in 's-Graveland

betekenis & definitie

Stately eighteenth-century two-storey houses in the village are Oversticht (Zuidereinde 22) and Zuidereinde 46-48. This latter building with plastered middentravee was first part of the Schoonoord estate and was built for merchant Joan Hodshon in 1773. G. Leonhardt had it converted into a double house in 1916-'17. Possibly 18th century is also the broad, white plastered double-deck Noordereinde 127-129 with adjacent coach house.

It was rebuilt in the middle of the 19th century and later on it was converted into a restaurant. The eighteenth-century basement of the deep Veltzicht (Noordereinde 151) has a landing staircase and a framed entrance. Noteworthy is the two-story house in the middle of the Noordereinde 265, covered with reeds and provided with scalloped wind springs. This in the core of the 18th century house was rebuilt around 1860. Cross-country houses with a framed entrance and an 18th-century core are Noordereinde 105 and 153-155; similarly, the nineteenth-century transverse houses Noordereinde 7 and 173. Examples of simple deep houses with spout gables are Zuidereinde 20 (early 19th century) and Noordereinde 145 (19th century). The houses Noordereinde 215-219 were built in 1877, possibly as service houses at one of the country houses. Markant is Zuidereinde 28 (circa 1890), a plastered coachman's house with attached form. coach house. The deep house Noordereinde 241 got around 1890 a screen facade with heavy cornice in eclectic forms. Neo-Renaissance elements show the mansions Noordereinde 11, 13, 49 and 93-95 (all circa 1900). A chalet style-ornamental spruce crowns the raised middle section of Noordereinde 107-109. The house Noorderinde 249 (circa 1910) is decorated with white and yellow brick and has Art Nouveau details. Rationalistic details show the houses Noordereinde 205-209 (circa 1915). The U-shaped complex of workers' homes Zuidereinde 125-147 was established around 1920.
