Ground in Uitgeest

betekenis & definitie

The form. steam pumping station Meldijk 54, built in 1874 according to W.C. and K. de Wit, got an electric motor in 1925. The sober neoclassical machine building with cast-iron arched windows partly serves as a studio. At the pumping station there is a late medieval sluice as a connection between the Binnenmeer and the Uitgeestermeer.

This lock with wooden gutters was widened in 1950 and fitted with an iron drawbridge. The form. steam pumping station Limmen (Fielkerweg 4) was built in 1879 on the site of the Zuidermolen, which together with the Noordermolen at Akersloot pouted the Polder Groot-Limmen. In 1919 the steam engine was replaced by an electric motor. The machine building with spout gables is decorated with a stepped arch frieze and lit stones in yellow brick.
