Aartswoud in Hoogwoud

betekenis & definitie

This small village north of Hoogwoud is a peat bog with ribbon-shaped buildings, which originated in the late Middle Ages. The tower in the core of the first half of the 16th century contains a bell (1620), cast by Henricus Nieman, and above the tower entrance there is a facing brick of a repair dating from 1635. The tower got its current shape by a rupture with neo-Gothic details. 1895. Important is the double overhanging gentleman's couch of the family Soete van Laecken (1641), executed in rich late-modern style with corinthian columns, family arms (top) and initials in ivory (doors). The organ (1885) was built by R. Ibach. The huge front. presbytery (Schoolstraat 47) arose in 1872 to an eclectic design by G. Groen with a combined entrance porch and indoor balcony. Farms. The 18th-century farmhouse Schoolstraat 4 has a far-developed front end with a wooden front. The head-rump farm Schoolstraat 43 (circa 1880) has eclectic details and a rich cast-iron stable window. To the east of Aartswoud is the Koggemolen (Kolkweg 2) from about 1585, a reed-covered octagonal inner barrel on a wood-covered base.
