(geb. 1925) Amerikaans schrijver, studeerde architectuur, was militair en later in diplomatieke dienst. Hij schrijft goed gecomponeerde, originele SF-verhalen en -romans.
Zijn korte verhalen gaan vaak over de interplanetaire diplomaat Retief, o.a. in de bundels Galactic diplomat 1965, Retief; ambassador to space 1969, Retief; emissary to the stars 1979, Retief and the rebels 1980 en Retief to the rescue 1983.
