Hij kwam aan een bankierskantoor, en wijdde zich later aan de letteren. Achtereenvolgens richtte hij de tijdschriften New-York Evening Mirror — Home Journal — The Saturday Press — Every Saturday en The Atlantic Monthly op. Hij schreef:Poezie;
