Buchanan (Robert) - Eng. dichter, 1841—1901, geb. te Caverswall in Staffordshire, studeerde te Glasgow. B.’s eerste werk Undertones (1863), een bundel gedichten, had een goede ontvangst. Verder schreef hij: Idylles and Legends of Inverbum (1865); London Poems; Wayside Posies (1866); Ballads of Love, Life and Humour(1882); The Outcast; The Wandering Jew.
Hij schreef een scherp artikel over de school van Rossetti* (The Fleshly school of Poetry), dat een vernietigend antwoord van Rossetti en Swinburne uitlokte. Tot zijn romans behoren: A child of Nature (1879); God and the Man (1881) en tot zijn drama’s: A madcap Prince en Alone in London.
