Engelsch philosoof, geb. 1617 te Aller in Somerset, werd in 1645 hoogleeraar in de hebreeuwsche taal te Cambridge, waar hij in 1688 stierf; hij behoort tot de engelsche platonieërs en bestrijdt het sensualisme van Hobbes; zijn hoofdwerk is: Thetrue intellectual System of the univers, wherein all the reason and the philosophy of atheism is confuted (1678).
