Lord Avebury, engelsch natuurvorscher, archeoloog en politikus, geb. 30 April 1834 te Londen; had zitting in het parlement voor Maidstone, later voor de universiteit te Londen, kreeg in 1900 als lord Avebury zitting in het Hoogerhuis; behoort tot de unionisten.
