Haliburton (Thomas Chandler), (1796—1865), Am.-Eng. schrijver, geb. te Windsor, Nova Scotia. Hij werd advocaat en later rechter. Hij was de schrijver van The Clockmaker or Sayings and Doings of Samuel Slick of Slickville (1837—40), waarin hij, vol humor, het type van den Yankee teekende.
Een vervolg The Attaché or Sam Stick in England (1844) had evenveel succes. Verdere werken: Nature and Human Nature (1855); Rule and Misrule of the English in America (1850).
