Thomas, Engels dichter, *1.3.1637 (of 28.2.1639) Hereford, ♱27.9.1674 Teddington. Traherne studeerde theologie te Oxford en werd in 1667 kapelaan te Teddington.
Hij schreef mystiek en religieus proza (ook poëzie), gekenmerkt door het typisch renaissancistisch neoplatonisme. In zijn werk toont hij zich overtuigd van de goedheid van God en de schepping. Werken: Roman forgeries (1673), Christian ethics (1675), A seriouscandpathetical contemplation of the mercies of God (1699).
