Hij legt de nadruk op de secundaire (bevoegdheidstellende) regels als kenmerk van het recht. Werken: Causation in the law (1959; samen met A.M.Honoré), The concept of law (1961), Law, liberty and morality (1963), Punishment and responsibility (1968).
