Engels schrijver, *26.7. 1895 Wimbledon. Gravès studeerde te Oxford, was tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog officier en leefde daarna van de pen.
Als dichter was zijn stijl aanvankelijk zeer sober; later ontwikkelde Graves een uiterst abstract en gecompliceerd maniërisme. Zijn grootste bekendheid verwierf hij als prozaïst, vooral door zijn historische romans.
