sir Arthur Stanley, astronoom, sinds 1913 hoogleeraar in Cambridge. * 1882. Zijn vele en diepgaande onderzoekingen over het stralingsevenwicht in sterren, begonnen in 1916, vormen den grondslag der theoretische astrophysica.
In 1924 ontdekte hij de massa-lichtkracht-wet, het verband tusschen de massa en de helderheid der sterren.
