Amerikaans componist, *16.4.1924 Cleveland. Mancini werd opgeleid aan de Juilliard School of Music te New York.
Hij werkte als arrangeur en pianist bij het orkest van Glenn Miller en andere big bands en arrangeerde de muziek van films als The Glenn Miller story (1954) en The Benny Goodman story (1956). Hij is een veelgevraagd componist van filmmuziek, wiens songs Moonriver, uit de film Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961) en Days of wine and roses (1963) een oscar wonnen. Zeer bekend werd ook zijn pink panther-thema. Filmmuziek: Touch of evil (1958), Hatari!
