De verhouding van de mens tot de zee vormde aanvankelijk Pratts belangrijkste onderwerp. Later schreef hij zowel lyrische als epische gedichten. Werken: proza: Rachel (1917), Newfoundland verse (1923), The witches’ brew (1925), The Roosevelt and the Antinoe (1930), The Titanic (1935), Dunkirk (1941), Stilllife and other poems (1943), They are returing (1945), Behind the log (1947); poëzie: Brébeuf and his brethern (1940), Towards the last spike (1952).
