Schots arts, *17.5.1716 Edinburgh, ♱13.7.1794 Gosport. Lind diende lange tijd als scheepsarts bij de marine, waar hij de basis legde voor de moderne scheepshygiëne.
In 1754 introduceerde hij de citroen als middel tegen scheurbuik. Ook toonde hij aan dat zout water door destillatie zoet wordt. Werk: A treatise on the scurvy (1754).
