Zijn echtgenoote, Mary Wollstonecraft, geb. 27 April 1759 te Hoxton bij Londen, overl. 10 Sept. 1797 te Londen, was de eerste strijdster voor de rechten der vrouw in Engeland; haar hoofdwerk is: A vindication of the rights of women (1792).
