Duitsch sanskrietvorscher, geb. 9 Mrt. 1857 te Bredow bij Stettin, studeerde te Tübingen in de oostersche talen, habiliteerde zich in 1878 te Koningsbergen, bereisde 1885—87 op staatskosten Indië, en werd in 1895 als opvolger van prof. Roth naar Tübingen beroepen.
