Driver (Samuel Rolles), Engelsch theoloog en Hebraïcus, geb. te Southampton (1846), studeerde te Oxford, blonk reeds als student uit; hij werd daar Regius Professor of Hebrew, Canon of Christ Church; voorts Fellow of the British Academy. Zijn voornaamste werken zijn: Isaiah, his life and limes, 2e druk 1893; lntrod. to the Literat, o/ the O. T., 2de druk 1909; Modem Research as illustrating the Bible, 1909; Verder commentaren op verschillende bijbelboeken: Joel, Amos, Deuteronomium; Daniel, Dodecapropheton, Job, Jeremia, Genesis. Hij stierf in 1914.
