Aldrich (thomas bailey) - Noord-Amer. schrijver en dichter, geb. 1836 te Portsmouth. De vroege dood zijns vaders noodzaakte hem zijn studiën af te breken. Hij kwam aan een bankierskantoor, en wijdde zich later aan de letteren.
Achtereenvolgens richtte hij de tijdschriften New-York Evening Minor; Home Journal; The Saturday Press; Every Saturday en The Atlantic Monthly op. Hij schreef in poëzie: The Bell’s; The Ballad of Baby Bell; Pampinea; Flower and thorn (dichtbundel); Mercedes, a historical drama in proza; The story of a bad boy; Prudence Palfrey; The Queen of Sheba; The course of true love; The stillwater tragedy. Vele van zijn werken zijn vol humor.
