Hij was aanhanger van de Fabian Society en van 1928 -44 voorzitter van de Workers’ Educational Association. Zijn Religion and the rise of capitalism (1926) illustreert Webers opvatting over het verband tussen kapitalisme en m.n. calvinisme.
