Amerikaans dichter, *18.8. 1902 Rye (New York), ♰19.5.1971 Boston. Nash was redacteur van de New Yorker en schreef filmscenario’s in Hollywood.
Hij debuteerde in 1931 met de bundels Hard lines en Free wheeling, die opvielen door hun humor en hun metrische onconventionaliteit. Als populair dichter schreef hij daarna nog veel lichtvoetige, surrealistische poëzie, soms opzettelijk onhandig, soms serieus. Nash schreef verder ook kinderboeken. Werken: The face is familiar (1941), Good intentions (1942), Family reunion (1950), Parents keep out (1951), You can’t get there from here (1957), Everyone but thee and me (1962), Marriage lines (1964), The untold adventures of Santa Claus , Santa go home (1968).
