John Middleton Murry, Engels litterair criticus, *6.8.1889 Londen, ♰31.3.1957 Thelnetham (Norfolk); gehuwd met Katherine Mansfield. Murry studeerde te Oxford en toonde vroeg zijn gaven als journalist en recensent.
Na de Eerste Wereldoorlog richtte hij de tijdschriften Athenaeum (1919-21) en Adelphi (1923-48) op en publiceerde een groot aantal kritische studies. Werken: The problem of style (1922), Keats and Shakespeare (1925), Studies in Keats (1930), Son of woman, the story of D.H. Lawrence (1931), The necessity of communism (1932), The free society (1948), The mystery of Keats (1949), Love, freedom and society (1957).
