Amerikaans filmkomiek, *20.4.1893 Burchard (Nebraska), ♱8.3.1971 Hollywood. Lloyd studeerde aan de school voor dramatische kunsten te San Diego en begon in 1913 zijn filmloopbaan bij de Edison Company.
Later speelde hij bij Mack Sennett en daarna bij Hal Roach, waar hij een groot aantal korte slapsticks maakte als Lonesome Luke (1915-17). Vanaf 1917 droeg hij zijn fameuze bril en strohoed. Hij werd vooral bekend door zijn halsbrekende gevelklimpartijen in Safety last (1923) en Feet first (1930). Andere hoofdfilms: Grandma’s boy (1922), Why worry? (1923), The freshman (1925), Movie crazy (1932).
