Arthur, Amerikaans toneelschrijver, *14.7.1918 New York. Laurents studeerde theaterwetenschappen aan Cornell University.
Hij schrijft psychologisch-realistische toneelstukken die meestal oorlogssituaties of rassenconflicten tot onderwerp hebben. Daarnaast schrijft Laurents scripts voor films en musicals.
Werken: toneel: Home of the brave (1946), The bird cage (1950), A clearing in the woods (1957), Gipsy (1959), The enclave (1973); scripts: West Side story (1957), Do I hear a waltz (1965); roman: The way we were (1972; verfilmd, 1973).
