John, Engels filmer van Hongaarse afkomst, *16.4.1912 Boedapest. Halas leerde de techniek van de →animatiefilm in Boedapest en Parijs.
Hij werd assistent van George Pal en maakte zijn eerste animatiefilm in 1934. In 1936 kwam hij naar GrootBrittannië voor de eerste Engelse tekenfilm in kleur, Musicman. Met zijn vrouw Joy Batchelor (*12.5.1914 Londen) stichtte hij in 1940 de Halas and Batchelor Cartoon Company die een groot aantal animatiefilms in allerlei stijlen produceerde voor handel, industrie, televisie en bioscoop.
