Richard, Engels filoloog, *27.1.1662 Oulton, +14.7.1742 Cambridge. Bentley werd vooral beroemd door zijn Epistola ad Millium (1691) over het Attische drama, en Dissertation on the epistles of Phalaris (1697), waarin hij de onechtheid van die brieven bewees.
