Robertus Franciscus Romulus, Italiaans heilige, *4.10.1542 Montepulciano, †17.9.1621 Rome. Bellarminus trad in 1560 in de jezuïetenorde en doceerde vanaf 1570 aan het theologicum van zijn orde te Leuven, sedert 1576 aan het Romeins College te Rome.
Hij werd in 1599 kardinaal.Bellarminus was een groot apologeet, zoals blijkt uit zijn hoofdwerk: Disputationes de controversiis christianae fidei adversus huius temporis haereticos (3 dln. 1586-93). Hij werd in 1930 heilig verklaard en in 1931 tot kerkleraar verheven. Feestdag: 17 september.
