Zij schreef geestige speurdersromans, waarvan een aantal draait om Scotland Yard-inspecteur Alan Grant. Op A chilling for cand/es 1936 is Alfred Hitchcocks film 'Young and innocent' gebaseerd. Andere romans o.a. Miss Pym disposes 1946 (Juffrouw Pym beschikt = Wie zal het zeggen...) en The singing sands 1952 (Moord in de nachttrein). Daarnaast schreef T. toneelstukken onder het pseud. Gordon Daviot, waarvan Richard of Bordeaux 1933 (Richard II) het belangrijkste is.
