Mackintosh (James), Engelsch wijsgeer 1764 — 1832, arts, later advokaat te Londen, behoort tot de Schotsche school en is ’t meest bekend door zijn Dissertation on the progress of the ethical philosophy (4e ed. in 1872). Zedelijkheid kan volgens M. niet van nuttigheid afgeleid worden.
