Koog aan de Zaan (municipality of Zaanstad)
Village, originated in the early 16th century when residents from Westzaan settled on the west bank of the Zaan. Along the Lagedijk (Raadhuisstraat e.v.) there was a two-sided ribbon development. From around 1870, various factories and companies settled in the area outside the dykes along the Zaan and Koog aan de Zaan became an industrial village....
