Child (Francis James), Amerik. philoloog en letterkundige, 1825—1896, geb. te Boston, werd in 1876 hoogleeraar in de Engelsche letterkunde aan Harvard-College, gaf in het licht: Collection of English and Scoltish ballads (8 dln. 1861); Observations on the Language of ChaucerObservations on the Language of Gower's Con; fessio Amantis.
