Moroccan Arabic, often shortened to Moroccan and also called Darija or Darizja, is one of the many languages of Morocco. It is used in daily life and increasingly on official occasions. The dictionary contains more than 15,000 headwords, mainly from Moroccan Arabic, together with Modern Standard Arabic vocabulary and hundreds of French loanwords used in Morocco. No prior knowledge of Arabic is required: Moroccan words appear in transcription and Arabic script, and the work also contains a concise grammar. It was written by Jan Hoogland and Roel Otten.

About the authors
The dictionary was created by Arabists with many years of experience in Moroccan Arabic, North African languages and university language teaching.
Jan Hoogland
Arabist and author of a Standard Arabic dictionary and a Moroccan Arabic textbook. He taught Arabic at Radboud University for many years and served as director of the Netherlands Institute in Morocco.
Roel Otten
Arabist and creator of a basic Moroccan Arabic dictionary. He worked for many years as a university lecturer in Arabic in Utrecht, with a focus on the languages and cultures of North Africa.
