Vogelenzang

betekenis & definitie

(Bloemendaal municipality) Village, formed on a beachside behind the dunes and named after the disappeared hunting lodge 'Vogelsanc', which was probably built here in the 13th century by Count Floris V. After the completion of the Leidse Trekvaart (1657), there were some buildings at the intersection with the Vogelenzangseweg. To the north of the village center around 1860 a Catholic church arose. In 1880 Vogelenzang got a station, but this did not lead to the development of villa parks, such as elsewhere in the dune area. After the Second World War, the village on the west and east sides expanded.
