The R.K. St.-Vincentius a Paulokerk in Volendam

betekenis & definitie

(Kerkepad 2) is a three-aisled cross-church with three-sided closed choir and a tower of three sections with constricted striker. This neo-Gothic church arose in 1860 for plans by Th. Molkenboer. In 1882-'83 the choir was replaced by a neo-Romanesque transept and choir to a design by A.C. Bleijs. Furthermore, the church was given the current side aisles with a three-sided closed chapel on the west side. According to plans by P. Snel, the current midship and the tower were created in 1907-'08. The tower has been restored in 1987, the church in 1994-'97.

The interior contains an inventory that has largely been transferred from elsewhere. From the H.H. Elisabeth and Barbarakerk in Haarlem come a few neo-Gothic altars (transferred 1997), namely the Maria and H. Hart altar, the main altar (atelier Cuypers-Stoltzenberg) and the former St. Vincent's altar. The sculpture was made by J.P. Mesh. The bronze door of the tabernacle and four copper statues were made in 1910 by J. Brom. From R.K. The church at Purmerend is home to the pulpit, the communion benches and two images of the angels (all circa 1860, transferred in 1956). The Adema organ is from the St. Anne's Church in Amsterdam (restored 1999). There are also crossroads by P. Geraeds (1940-'45) and glass-in-window windows by F. van Balendonk (1956, left side aisle and baptistery). The presbytery (Kerkepad 1) is a large mansion from about 1882.
