The R.K. St.-Martinus church in Medemblik

betekenis & definitie

(Ridderstraat 5) is a three-aisled basilical cross church with three-sided closed choir, built-up chapels and a sacristy. The nave is flanked by a staircase tower (right) and a tower of four sections with wimber and four-sided needle striker (left).

This neo-Gothic church was established in 1901-'03 after plans by Th. Sling and replaced a church from 1830. The upper part of the spire was renewed in 1948. The barrel vaults and the triumphal arch are polychromed by C. Dunselman. The inventory includes crossroads (1925) by A. Windhausen. Near the church are a neoclassical presbytery (Ridderstraat 7, circa 1850), a sexton's house (Ridderstraat 3, 1904) and the parish house 'St. Pieter '(Ridderstraat 9, circa 1904, extensive 1920).
