The Herv church in Wijk aan Zee

betekenis & definitie

(Voorstraat 1), originally dedicated to St. Odulphus, is a single-nave church with a slender tower of four sections with printed tent roof. A late gothic cruciform church, built around 1420, was largely destroyed in 1573, after which in 1609 only the ship and the tower were restored. In the tower hangs a clock cast by Francois Hemony (1658). The ruin of the rest of the church was removed in 1855. During the restoration in 1936-'37 (G. Friedhoff) the current consistory room was built. The inventory includes a pulpit on 15th-century stone feet, a 17th-century doophek and a Maarschalkerweerd organ (1905).
