The Herv church in Spaarndam

betekenis & definitie

(Kerklaan 4) is a T-shaped church with a consistory room and a roof rider with narrowed spire. At the site of a storm-destroyed chapel, this church was built in 1627 with three-sided closed short sides. In 1663 followed the construction of a also three-sided closed transverse aisle (north side).

A bell from 1764 hangs in the roof rider. The east portal dates from 1830. The church was restored in 1981-'82. The interior is covered by wooden barrel vaults with draw beams. The inventory includes a pulpit (1665), a doophek and benches (third quarter of the 17th century), an organ (circa 1715) and two ship models (late 18th century). Furthermore, there is the grave of Nicolaus Samuelsz Cruquius († 1754). The cemetery was mainly used for the burial of drowning men before 1829.
