The Herv church in Sijbekarspel

betekenis & definitie

(Westerstraat 42), originally dedicated to St. Laurentius, is a one-aisled, straight-closed church with a roof rider above the west facade. The late Gothic ship - with a wooden barrel dated '1547' - was built against an older and narrower choir.

The corner support bears (15th century) on the east side of that choir, which was demolished in 1815. The west facade with middle ressault and roof rider rose in 1861 after the demolition of the old church tower. In the roof rider hangs a clock (1682) cast by Laurens Brinckhuysen. During the restoration in 1966-'67 the outside plaster was removed. The inventory includes a richly carved pulpit (mid-17th century), a copper baptismal arch (late 18th century) and a by L. van Dam & amp; amp; Zn. built organ (1883). The substantial presbytery (Westerstraat 40) dates back to around 1860.
