The Herv church in Marken

betekenis & definitie

(opposite Kerkbuurt 8) is a three-aisled pseudo-basilic church with a three-sided closed choir and a tower of three sections with constricted striker. The church was built in 1903-'04 in late Neo-Renaissance style to a design from 1896 by A.H.L. Kups. In the tower there is a clock cast by Joannes van Trier (1647).

The interior is covered by a wooden barrel vault on four cast iron columns (firm G. Wispelwey & amp; Co.); the side aisles have a flat ceiling. The inventory includes a pulpit and lectern (both third quarter of the 17th century), three copper crowns (17th century) and a copper baptismal arch with swan (18th century). There are ship models of two herring tubes (circa 1600 and 1890), a steam logger (circa 1943), a botter (1957) and an anchovy skate (1959). The form. presbytery (Kerkbuurt 7) is a deep house from 1840 with a sundial in the top of the shoulder gable.
