The Herv church in Limmen

betekenis & definitie

(Zuidkerkenlaan 25), originally dedicated to St. Cornelius, is a one-aisled church with a built-in slender tower with narrowed spire. From the small tuff church from around 1100, a wall fragment remains on the side where around 1200 a late Romanesque tower arose.

During the construction of the current church around 1300 the tower was built in. The tower, which was largely renovated in 1743, contains a clock (1650) cast by François and Pieter Hemony. The choir, which was renovated in the 15th century, was destroyed in 1573 and then demolished with a part of the ship (the last choir remains cleaned up in 1806). The straight choir closure dates from 1743. The church has been restored and dismantled in 1904-'06, 1968 (unloading, R. H. Fledderus) and 1999.
