The former council house in Spanbroek

betekenis & definitie

(Spanbroekerweg 39) is a Mannerist building dating back to 1598 (year-olds) with stepped gables (shielding lion) and a virtually closed basement (with cachot). Two facades show diamond-shaped patterns in yellow stone. The framed entrance with landing stairs was installed around 1790, the coat of arms in Louis XV style above it dates from around 1760.

The bell-floor contained the council chamber. The building served as a town hall until 1881. Restorations followed in 1931 (cross-bar frame) and in 1978 (D. Fledderus).
