The foremost Fort Uitermeer in Weesp

betekenis & definitie

('s-Gravelandseweg 2), located to the east of Weesp near the hamlet of Uitermeer, was built in 1672-'73 at the site of a redoubt from 1589 at the mouth of the' s-Gravelandse Vaart in the Vecht. This fortified fort belonged to the (New) Dutch Waterline and was expanded and strengthened in 1726 and 1773. In 1845 it was given a bombproof turret tower that, after 1874, also covered the Weesp-Hilversum railway line. In 1919 the fort was added to the Defense Line of Amsterdam. After 1945, the terrain was leveled and the tower was blown up. The wall remains were restored in ruin in 2004-'05. Nearby are a machine gun casemate (1933-'36), a G-casemate (1939) and some group shelters (1939).

In 1888 the Uitermeerse Sluis (near Kreugerlaan 1) was built at the fort at the mouth of the 's-Gravelandse Vaart on the Vecht. An iron drawbridge (1888), supplied by iron foundry 'De Prins van Oranje', with a movable section from elsewhere, is located across the lock. The sluiswachtershuis (Kreugerlaan 1), which was built in 1888, has a central party, which has been upgraded to a roofer, which has been plastered just like the savings fields.
