The foremost Chamber of the East India Company in Hoorn

betekenis & definitie

(Muntstraat 4) has a transversely, tightly classicist main building with middle ressault. The framed entrance is equipped with side lights and a segment-shaped pediment. The pediment of the adjoining deep building is provided with a shield worn by putti with the text 'V.O.C.H (oorn)'. Both buildings were established around 1660 on the grounds of the forem. Geertenklooster, where in 1594 the Muntstraat was built. In 1867 the complex was set up as a Higher Burger School and from 1956 to 1982 it served as a police station.

At the site of a house dating from around 1580, around 1675 - probably as a board of directors - the deep building Muntstraat 6 with colossal corinthian pilasters arose. From the carved double doorway in the corridor, the right-hand part leads to a hallway with a small wooden barrel vault to the back house.
