(Dam 4) came into being in the current form in 1939-'42 on the site of a town hall dating from 1548, which was radically renovated around 1870.
A.J. Kropholler designed a tall building with a basement, landing stairs and steep stepped gables in the robust traditionalist forms with rationalistic details. The decorations with ships (landing stairs) and city coat of arms (façade) are from J. Raedecker; three stained glass windows were made by W. Bogtman. The rear wing (originally a fire garage and two service houses) was included in the later city hall extensions. There is a lantern designed by Kropholler.
