Residential homes in Volendam

betekenis & definitie

Little is left of the original wooden fishing houses. From the second half of the 19th century, the transverse wooden house remains Haven 11 (circa 1860) - with the wide gable of the arms of Volendam - and the small wooden harbor master's house at Haven 37-39 (circa 1893).

Many of the deep houses on the dyke have later been converted into shops and / or cafés. Worth mentioning are Haven 28 (circa 1860, 'Hollandse Markt'), the clocked building Haven 58 (circa 1890, 'The Clock') and Haven 94 (circa 1910) with a younger loggia on the first floor. In 1910, the existing Haven 60 building ('In de Halve Maan') was given a brick façade. A little younger is the notary and later doctor's house Noordeinde 11 (circa 1915) with stepped gable and side wing. Characteristic are the small detached deep dwellings in the neighborhoods behind the dike, for example the sloping and staggered fishermen's houses Aalstraat 8-12 (circa 1910) and the houses Ansjovisstraat 1-17, 2-18 (circa 1910) with various top facades.
