Opperdoes (municipality of Noorder-Koggenland)

betekenis & definitie

Village, originated in the 13th century on an old creek back where some mounds were built on. In 1517 the village was looted by the Zwarte Hoop (Great Pier). The area proved suitable for the rough horticulture, for which the 'Ons Belang' auction was established in 1903. Tuinder J. Sluis developed in 1865 the 'Opperdoezer round', an early deep-eyed potato variety. Parallel to the ribbon development, the railway line Hoorn-Medemblik ran in 1887. After the Second World War, the buildings were somewhat compacted.
