On the Dam is a bronze statue for Peter the Great (1909-'11, L. Bernstamm, pedestal A. Guilbert), donated by Tsar Nicholas II to the Zaanse bourgeoisie as a reminder of the stay of Peter the Great in 1697 in Zaandam. The statue shows the tsar as shipbuilder. The brick-edged Monumento Urbana (Musical approx. 1990, A. Rossi) consists of ever-shrinking cubes crowned by polygonal volume. At the base, each side has a portal with a gable roof.
