Locks and bridges in Weesp

betekenis & definitie

The Noordersluis in the discharge of the Smal-Weesp on the Vecht was replaced in 1564 by a larger lock, and again in 1816-'17.

The current quays on the Herengracht and the sluices with double chamber date from 1822-'23 (restored 1978). The lockkeeper's house (Hoogstraat 1-2) is a low, block-shaped and white-plastered building from around 1840. Next to the nearby Sluisbrug (Herengracht approx.), A steel half-timbered bridge that was renovated in 1978, stands an eight-sided bridge keeper's house (1982). The Lange Vecht bridge (Ossenmarkt approx.) Is a renewed double wooden drawbridge. It includes the forem. toll and bridge operator's house Ossenmarkt 1, a white plastered single-storey building with attic (balustrade) and hard stone doric columns at the corners. This house, which also housed a church for some time, was built in 1732 and enlarged around 1840.
