Houses in Ijpendam

betekenis & definitie

Characteristic are the houses that have been built on high plinths due to flooding and where the ground floor is accessible via a pavement. A good example of this is Dorpsstraat 52 (early 19th century). This deep wooden house has a brick shoulder façade with wooden aedicula.

Built around 1850 is the transverse single-layered Havenpad 4. Examples of late-19th-century wooden workers' houses are Hofweg 7 and 12. The deep house Dorpsstraat 30 (circa 1870) has eclectic window frames and a shop window for the built-in retail space. The deep house Dorpsstraat 17 received a new facade in 1915 when it was converted into a shop. 'Um 1800' details show the house, run by bay, Dorpsstraat 12 (1924). Examples of houses in sober traditionalist forms are De Noord 1 (circa 1920) and Zonneweg 24 (circa 1938).
